August 2024 Information Letter

Just another quick reminder that registration information is ready and available.  You can pay fees, view student schedules, apply for financial assistance and purchase yearbooks through your parent powerschool login.  Visit https://wsd.net/ for all the links and info.

We have noticed a few errors on student schedules that we are working to correct.  For example some students have two 5th period classes on their schedule or are missing a Math, English or Science class.  If you notice any errors like these please go to the counseling website and complete the schedule change request form and reference the error you are noticing.

Just to differentiate, if you didn't get the elective classes you requested, that was due to limited space and/or other schedule conflicts with your other classes.  You can still request a schedule change using the same form but please remember many changes cannot be accommodated due to the other conflicts.

We are asking for your feedback on a few key components of our school.  We will use your responses to guide professional development for our teachers and services we provide to our students.  Please take a few minutes and complete the short survey here.

We are holding Back to School Night on Aug 19 from 3:30 - 6:30 pm.  During this time students and parents can explore the school to find their classes, lunch areas, bathrooms etc.  Incoming 7th grade students should go to the library so they can be issued their new chromebook.  9th grade students should also bring their current chromebook and charger and go to the library to exchange for their new devices and chargers.  Additionally, Mrs. Saunders will be conducting basic Canvas and PowerSchool classes every 30 minutes for parents who would like learn more about these systems and how they can help their students monitor their learning progress.

If you are having Chromebook issues, here a few tips from our tech dept to try...

  1. Chromebook Won’t Turn On/Stopped Working/Won’t Charge:
    • Many students may have closed the lid of their Chromebook over the summer, which puts it to sleep but doesn’t turn it off. This means the battery can completely drain over time. When this happens, plugging in the Chromebook to charge may not work. Students should perform a hard reset and leave the Chromebook charging overnight. Instructions are provided below.
  2. Signing the Appropriate Use Policy (AUP):
    • Students need to sign the AUP as soon as possible to avoid being locked out in October. The AUP can be signed at aup.wsd.net.
  3. Password Resets:

Chromebook Hard Reset for Charging Depleted Batteries:

  1. Unplug the charger from the wall outlet and Chromebook.
  2. Separate the two pieces of the charger for 1 minute, then reconnect.
  3. Plug the charger into the wall and the Chromebook.
  4. Open the Chromebook and press and hold the refresh key.
  5. While still pressing the refresh key, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
  6. Release both keys.
  7. Note that the charging light may not light up at this time.
  8. Shut the lid and leave the Chromebook on the charger overnight without removing the power.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
